Detect and change negative beliefs: 120 cards for counselling, coaching and therapy

Hogrefe Verlag; 1st edition 2025 (28 February 2025)

Beliefs are formed on the basis of individual biographical experiences and include convictions about oneself (e.g. "I am not important."), about relationships with others (e.g. "You are not taken seriously in relationships.") and rules of behaviour that one imposes on oneself and others (e.g. "Only rely on yourself!" "People have to stand up for me!").

These dysfunctional beliefs and automatic thoughts influence our thoughts, actions and emotions. In a way, they function like an autopilot which, once activated, triggers the same thought patterns over and over again, controls our behaviour, makes us experience situations in a certain way and contributes to negative emotions and low self-esteem.

This set of cards is based on the assumption that every person has six motives (recognition, importance, reliability, solidarity, autonomy and boundaries) that guide our behaviour in interactions with others. It supports all those who accompany people in their development - be it in coaching, counselling or psychotherapy.

Together with the exercises described in the booklet, it offers a playful and at the same time quick approach to detecting and restructuring negative beliefs that might otherwise have remained undiscovered. As a result, negative beliefs lose their effect and new ways of behaving and experiencing become possible.

Finding a life balance

Hogrefe Publishing House, ISBN: 978-3-801-72847-2 1st edition 2019, 172 pages

Current trends, such as digitalisation and increased mobility and flexibility requirements, are increasingly blurring the boundaries between work and private life. The pressure to manage many things at the same time, to do justice to all sides and to be constantly available is increasing. As a result, many people feel stressed and overwhelmed, life gets out of sync and sometimes the body reacts and develops symptoms. The aim of the guide is to show ways to achieve greater satisfaction at work and in private life in the form of self-coaching in order to stay healthy in the long term.

The book uses scientific findings to show which factors influence life satisfaction. It provides suggestions for looking at the demands of everyday life and the available resources and for dealing with the various pieces of the life balance puzzle. To this end, the areas of values and goals, job satisfaction and stress, social relationships, physical health and dealing with stress, emotions and personality traits are scrutinised more closely. Exercises help the reader to reflect on their own experiences in order to find starting points for possible changes.

She trained as a clinical hypnotherapist according to Milton Erickson. Fun at work despite the boss

Springer-Verlag, ISBN: 978-3-662-46750-3 1st edition 2015, 130 pages

This book helps you to understand others and to make yourself understood by different characters. Anyone who works is surrounded by other people. Communication can often be organised. With superiors, there seems to be little influence - we have to take them as they are. This sometimes causes stress. Sachse and Collatz, experts in counselling people in work contexts, show in this book how personality styles "tick": The different styles are each described in terms of their general characteristics, relationship motives, underlying assumptions (schemas), their strengths and weaknesses - with the consequences for themselves and their interaction partners. Readers will recognise how they can deal with this in a constructive and healthy way. This book is short and clear and is written for the enjoyment and benefit of managers and employees alike.

How do I ruin my career - systematically?

Klett Cotta Verlag, ISBN: 978-3-608-10296-3 1st edition 2012, 139 pages

Don't put your foot in it, it's worth it!

Think about it: if you are spoilt by professional success, you will be all alone at the top of the career ladder! Is that really what you want? To make sure it doesn't get that far in the first place, we will be happy to help you descend safely and, above all, quickly.

Here are the top 3 knock-out criteria for your fast-paced career:

  1. Play the dramatist! Whether you're a crybaby or choleric, just let your emotions run free. You can be sure that an appearance of this kind will leave a lasting impression on colleagues and superiors.
  2. Become a social dyslexic! Empathy is completely overrated, don't be afraid to use the sledgehammer, you're not here to cuddle up.
  3. Conflicts resolve themselves - so keep a low profile! This way, the conflict can continue to smoulder in peace and the big fire is not far away.

Clarification-orientated coaching

Hogrefe Publishing House, ISBN: 978-3-801-72391-0 1st edition 2011, 162 pages

More and more people are seeking support from a coach for work-life balance problems, stress, interaction problems or psychosomatic disorders. The coach is now faced with the task of addressing the coaching client's concerns with a coherent, theory-based concept and an approach that the client can understand. However, common coaching concepts often only offer a loose collection of different methods without empirical validation.

Clarification-oriented coaching is different: here, the tried-and-tested and proven effective approaches of clarification-oriented psychotherapy are transferred to the field of coaching and suitable intervention strategies are derived. Relationship building is addressed as well as problem clarification and definition, clarification and change of relevant schemata, dealing with personality styles and finally interventions for specific problems. Anyone involved in coaching will find a tried and tested, transparent concept for the entire coaching process.

Work-life balance

Hogrefe Verlag, ISBN: 978-3-801-72326-2 1st edition 2011, 101 pages

Changes in the world of work and developments in the course of demographic change are confronting working people with new, complex challenges (e.g. permanent availability, mobility, increasing need to look after relatives in need of care). It is clear that the areas of work and private life always influence each other (spillover effect). The question of the extent to which you can manage and harmonise the demands of both areas becomes a decisive factor for your own performance and well-being.

This particularly affects the groups of so-called high potentials and managers with long working weeks, high work demands and a strong commitment to achieving professional goals. Only if companies succeed in supporting employees in dealing with the demands and building up resources can a balance be created that maintains health and performance in the long term.

Although the topic of work-life balance has been discussed in Germany since the 1990s, there has not yet been a standardised concept for dealing with this area of conflict on the company side. This volume presents various work-life balance concepts, company intervention options and concrete approaches to determining the benefits. The focus is on a broad consideration of possible fields of action and intervention options that go beyond the mere consideration of work-life balance.
