Become an optimist, preferably right now!

It's been a few weeks now that we've been dealing with the omnipresent topic of the corona virus has been with us. There is no end in sight and We can all feel how our lives are changing, usually dramatically. Interesting is what the press is reporting today: The Finns are once again ranked 1 in the 'Global Happiness Report', making them the happiest and most happiest nation in the world - despite corona. Is it because they have so much space in their they have so much space in their country anyway that they can easily avoid each other and don't generally fear being alone too much? Just think about it: It's winter there almost all year round! Who knows, maybe most Finns are just optimists and don't let things get them down so easily.

That is exactly what we should try to do. Therefore, in this unexpected and extraordinary time, I would like to use my blog to share ideas on how to deal with negative news. There is more than enough of it every day and and, unless you live in Finland, they fuel fear and panic. Against this we can do something about it!

Not only viruses are contagious, so are emotions. An example: A child beams at you happily and you automatically return an open smile. Unfortunately, this also works of course also works on another level, namely when it comes to negative feelings such as anxiety or apprehension. However, certain personality traits such as confidence can help us to deal better with difficult situations. For example, optimists tend to see unpleasant events as temporary and find solutions more easily. And they live even live longer. The good news is that nobody is born an optimist or a pessimist. born a pessimist. Positive thinking can be practised - now is the time to do it. days at home and give it a try!

Thoughts determine feelings - this realisation is the basis of the exercise that I would like to suggest to you here (based on Wolf & Merkle, 2011) to I would like to suggest to improve your mood and well-being.

It's very simple: What do the following terms terms mean to you? Think about it and write down what you personally associate with "gratitude", for example, what it stands for and what it stands for and what circumstances in your life you associate with it. life you associate with it.

  • Gratitude
  • Happiness be
  • To love and be loved
  • Enthusiasm
  • Friendships
  • Feel-good places
  • Talents and skills
  • To grow beyond outgrow myself

With this small but effective exercise, you can direct your thoughts to the positive aspects of life. You will notice how your mood mood improves more and more the more you go through the terms in your mind.

Have fun training to become an optimist or at least a healthy realist! I look forward to hearing about your experiences, as this is also particularly important in these days and weeks: Exchange. Let's say it like the Finns: Kaikkea hyvää! By the way, that means: All the best!
