Excellently researched article in the first 'Spiegel' issue of 2020 on a topic that is always topical. From my experience as a qualified psychologist and business coach, I cannot emphasise this often enough: Self-optimisation in no way leads to greater satisfaction and happiness. Anyone who thinks that deep-seated problems can be solved by working on their BMI is deceiving themselves. This is because the cause and symptom are being confused. It is much more effective to ask yourself: Why did I get into an emotional imbalance in the first place? Why do I think I have to be perfect? The answer is not as individual as you might think. Because there is probably a certain subconscious thought or belief behind it: "Only if I perform will I be lovable and recognised." Phrases like this are deeply rooted in us through upbringing and experience and determine our actions. Dealing with such beliefs or discovering them in the first place helps immensely and can lead to quick, effective and lasting change.
